Nearly 80 patient-care locations across South Carolina and Georgia went dark over the weekend after a malware infection locked down the entire network of regional health provider AnMed. The non-profit, which runs 106 facilities in the region, said computer systems, phones, and internet access were all knocked out. Emergency rooms stayed open, but the organization was forced to close medical group offices and imaging centers and to start calling patients whose elective procedures might be canceled. AnMed is working with cybersecurity teams to investigate the breach and restore operations but has not said when the closed sites will reopen.
