A nonprofit dental chain that serves Minnesota Medicaid patients has agreed to settle consolidated class action claims tied to a 2024 network intrusion.
Community Dental Care notified more than 130,000 people after an intruder reached its systems around December 20, 2024, and potentially copied names, insurance details, birth dates, medical information and Social Security numbers. Roughly 7,100 of those records contained Social Security numbers. Notifications went out starting March 28, 2025, and litigation followed within days.
Five complaints filed in Ramsey County District Court were merged into one case. The provider denied wrongdoing and won partial dismissal, but claims for negligence and breach of implied contract survived. Both sides then agreed to settle before discovery. Class members can seek reimbursement of documented losses up to $5,000, or take a $50 cash payment, and either option comes with two years of medical data monitoring.
The clock is tight. Objections and opt-outs are due September 24, 2026, claims must be filed by October 19, and a final fairness hearing is set for November 23.
The case follows a well-worn pattern for safety-net providers: limited security budgets, long dwell times and years of litigation that end in modest per-patient payments.
