Threat trackers logged an August 1 extortion post in which the coinbasecartel group claims it broke into MIM Fertility, an AI-driven US clinic focused on IVF and reproductive medicine. The listing on the group’s leak site threatens to expose sensitive patient data unless the company starts negotiations within 48 hours, according to DeXpose, HookPhish, and ransomware.live.
The clinic, reachable through mimfertility.ai, has not responded publicly to the claim, and no victim tally has been published. Extortion groups routinely add fresh names to their sites to pressure quick payments, and some postings turn out to be overstated or false.
Reproductive health providers collect genetic, fertility, and diagnostic records that rank among the most sensitive data in medicine, which makes them a magnet for extortion. Earlier attacks on ReproSource and Reproductive Biology Associates already exposed hundreds of thousands of fertility patient files.
Clinics should scan leak sites for their own names, test backup and restore paths, and have a notification plan ready before a claim appears. Patients should ignore third-party demands and wait for the clinic’s official statement.
